Netflix Acquires Exclusive Broadcast Rights for FIFA Women's World Cup in the U.S.

The United States - FIFA has granted exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cups in the U.S. to Netflix. This deal marks Netflix's first time securing full rights to a major sports event and emphasizes the growing significance of the women's tournament.

This partnership will allow fans in the U.S., including Puerto Rico, to watch every match live in all languages. Netflix plans to enhance the viewing experience with comprehensive coverage and studio programming featuring top-tier talent for both English and Spanish broadcasts.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino referred to the agreement as evidence of the value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and a milestone for global women's soccer. Infantino noted, "Netflix has shown a strong commitment to the development of women's football," emphasizing the potential of this partnership to elevate the profile of the sport ahead of the tournaments.

Netflix’s Head of Content, Bela Bajaria, expressed excitement about bringing the tournament to the streaming service and highlighted the intention to celebrate the players and the evolving culture of the sport along with its fan base.

The deal also includes the production of exclusive documentary series focusing on the stories of top players and the global expansion of women's football ahead of the 2027 and 2031 tournaments. Previously, Netflix has ventured into football storytelling with successful documentaries related to various aspects of the sport.

With this historic arrangement, the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, and the 2031 edition, with its host country yet to be announced, are poised for unprecedented reach and engagement in the U.S. market.
