Donald Trump to Be Named Time's "Person of the Year" and Ring the NYSE Opening Bell
According to Politico, Donald Trump is expected to be named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" for 2024, and he is planned to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday morning to celebrate this event. This information comes from three individuals who are familiar with the plans but wished to remain anonymous because they are not authorized to disclose the award.
The tradition of celebrating the announcement of the magazine cover by ringing the opening bell at the stock exchange continued last year when Time's CEO Jessica Sibley rang the bell to honor Taylor Swift for winning the title. Trump, who was honored with this distinction after winning the presidential election in 2016, will be one of the 13 U.S. presidents recognized with this title, including current President Joe Biden.
The shortlist for Time's "Person of the Year" was announced on Monday during NBC's "The Today Show," featuring prominent names such as Vice President Kamala Harris, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In addition to the "Person of the Year" announcement, Time has already revealed its other annual awards: NBA star Caitlin Clark as Athlete of the Year, music legend Elton John as Icon of the Year, and Lisa Su from Advanced Micro Devices as CEO of the Year.
A spokesperson for Time, maintaining the publication's policy on this matter, stated, "Time does not comment on its annual selection for Person of the Year before it is published. This year's selection will be announced tomorrow morning, December 12, on Time.com."
